In May 2020, Glen Eira Council passed a motion to declare a climate emergency and committed to ambitious new carbon emission reduction targets:

  • zero net corporate emissions by 2025
  • zero net community emissions by 2030

Standing behind their commitment to strong and fast action on climate change, Glen Eira moved quickly to develop a Strategy and Action Plan to create momentum to act right across Council, and in partnership with the local community.

Through the Sustainability Advisory Committee and Have Your Say, residents provided fresh perspectives on the Strategy, helping to ensure it will support the Glen Eira community vision for a "thriving community of empowered citizens working together for an inclusive and sustainable future.”

Context

HV.H has assisted Council in developing the Strategy, which sets out Glen Eira's systemic, adaptation and mitigation contributions to the global climate emergency response.

  • Gaps and Opportunities assessment to understand current state and key areas of focus for the Strategy
  • Three staff workshops to seek detailed input from across Council
  • Develop goals, objectives and a M&E approach in consultation with staff and reference to community engagement
  • Write the Strategy and four year Action Plan
